about

This new work for string quartet is an interpretation of the Pagan "cross-quarter days" - significant dates in the Pagan calendar, which are allocated a movement each:

I. Imbolc (1st February). The cold of winter, starting to warm into spring.
II. Beltane (1st May). A lively fire festival, celebrating the coming of summer.
III. Lughnasadh (1st August). A harvest festival.
IV. Samhain (1st November). Feast of the dead - "when the veils between this world and the Otherworld were believed to be at their thinnest".

Track 5 "Footsteps Through the Forest" is an electroacoustic piece written to complement the string quartet, composed of field recordings taken in a forest mixed with cello and other recorded sounds.
